‘Big Brother’ Production Full Steam Ahead After Nine Positive COVID Tests

Good news: more evictions won’t be necessary on Season 23 of Big Brother, at least where the crew are concerned. Per a report from Deadline, LA County’s Covid database showed nine positive tests of the CBS Studio Center (aka CBS Radford) in Studio City. According to the investigation, this outbreak is directly tied to CBS’s Big Brother, which is currently filming its season there.

The nine positive tests for crew members have been registered over the past several weeks, starting on July 26. Most of those impacted are reportedly already back at work after being quarantined and cleared to return for work.

The houseguests are currently unaffected by COVID, with none of them testing positive for the disease. Further, none of the infected crew members are believed to have had any interactions with the cast, as they’re all based in different areas on set.

Production on the show is still full steam ahead. As the season approaches Week 7 out of 10, filming has not been impacted in any way. The show employs around 500 people, so those nine positive tests record only a 1.8 percent infection rate. The reality series is reportedly following all industry health and safety protocols.

Season 23 premiered earlier this summer on July 7, and will conclude in around a month on September 29. Current playing houseguests include Alyssa Lopez, Azah Awasum, Claire Rehfuss, Derek Frazier, Derek Xiao, Hannah Chaddha, Kyland Young, Sarah Beth Steagall, Tiffany Mitchell, and Xavier Prather. Julie Chen Moonves has once again returned as the host of the reality series.

The initial houseguests also included Christie Valdiserri, but the competitor tested positive for Covid-19 and was forced to exit the game as she quarantined. She was replaced by Rehfuss.

This season’s cast has been praised for being the most diverse yet. After facing a handful of race-related controversies over the years, Season 23 made a conscious effort to diversify its cast.

Big Brother airs Sundays and Wednesdays at 8/7c on CBS.
