Is ‘The Protégé’ on HBO Max or Netflix? Where to Watch the Michael Keaton Thriller

1

If I told you there was a new movie coming out about a ruthless assassin, you might tell me you’ve seen that movie before. But what if I said this ruthless assassin is played by a sexy, leather-clad lady? What’s that? You’ve seen that movie before, too?

Well, if you have a hankering to watch a sexy lady assassin movie again, then you can catch The Protégé in movie theaters this weekend. Starring Maggie Q as the aforementioned sexy lady assassin, this action-thriller is sure to deliver exactly what you expect it to deliver. Plus, you can’t beat the cast—in addition to Maggie Q, The Protégé also stars Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Patrick Malahide, David Rintoul, Ori Pfeffer, Ray Fearon, Caroline Loncq, and Robert Patrick.

It’s a confusing time for movie release right now, with some big blockbusters releasing on streaming services, and others remaining theatrical. Never fear, because Decider is here to help. Here’s where to watch The Protégéand when to expect The Protégé on streaming.

WHERE TO WATCH THE PROTEGE 2021:

Right now, the only place to watch The Protégé is in a movie theater, after it opens on Friday, August 20. You can find a showing at a theater near you here, and don’t forget to bring your mask when you go.

WILL THE PROTEGE BE ON HBO MAX?

No. The Protégé is a Lionsgate film, not a Warner Bros. film. While HBO Max, which is owned by Warner Media, is the streaming home for Warner Bros. blockbusters like The Suicide Squad, it will not be the streaming home for The Protégé—and at least, not for a while.

IS THE PROTEGE ON NETFLIX?

No. The 2021 movie, The Protégé, starring Michael Keaton, is not on Netflix. The 2007 Cantonese drama, Protégé, starring Daniel Wu, is also not on Netflix at this time. Better luck next time!

WHEN WILL THE PROTEGE BE STREAMING?

A digital release date for The Protégé has not yet been announced. However, we can guess that the film might be available to rent on premium-on-demand about a month after it opens in theaters, sometime in mid-to-late September. This is based on a previous Lionsgate release this year, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which became available to rent on PVOD for $20 a little over a month after it was released in theaters.

But take this guess with a grain of salt. Lionsgate did not follow a consistent template for releasing movies during the pandemic, and movie releases continue to remain in flux as COVID-19 continues to affect movie-going. If you really can’t wait to see the film, your best bet is to go to a movie theater.
